This study aims to analyze the dynamics of interpersonal communication between mothers and children after losing a father and the adaptation process carried out in the social environment in Tengah Village, Utan District, Sumbawa Regency. Losing a father not only impacts the emotional condition of family members, but also influences communication patterns, role division, and social relationships within the family. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques are carried out through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of mothers who are single parents and children who are raised without a father figure. The results show that the loss of a father figure causes changes in the mother's role in the family, changes in the child's emotional condition, difficulties in expressing feelings, and changes in the openness of communication between mother and child. Despite facing various challenges, mothers and children strive to build more open, empathetic, and mutually supportive communication as a form of adaptation to the new family conditions. In addition, support from the extended family and the social environment also plays a role in helping the adjustment process after losing a father figure. Thus, interpersonal communication is a crucial factor in strengthening the mother-child relationship and supporting the family's adaptation process after the loss of a father.
Firda Widia Sari A Anwar Copyright (c) 2026 Firda Widia Sari, A Anwar https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 263 – 275 263 – 275 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2572 ANALISIS PENERAPAN CHECKS AND BALANCES DALAM PENYELENGGARAAN PEMERINTAHAN DESA JOTANG KECAMATAN EMPANG (Studi Kasus Pengunduran Diri Kepala Desa Tahun 2026) http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2586
This study aims to analyze the implementation of checks and balances mechanisms by the Village Consultative Body (BPD) in the administration of Jotang Village, Empang District, Sumbawa Regency, particularly in response to the dynamics that led to the resignation of the Village Head in 2026. Checks and balances are crucial instruments for ensuring accountable and transparent village governance following the enactment of Law Number 6 of 2014 concerning Villages. However, empirical reality in Jotang Village indicates a failure in oversight mechanisms, leading to instability in village governance. This research employs an exploratory case study approach with a qualitative design to uncover the structural and cultural barriers underlying the BPD's inability to effectively intervene in policies or conduct oversight. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentary analysis, and were analyzed inductively to develop analytical generalizations. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of checks and balances between the BPD and the Jotang Village Government in Empang District has not yet functioned optimally. This is evident in the implementation of joint legislative functions, preventive oversight, repressive oversight, the balance of authority, and the channeling of community aspirations, all of which still face various obstacles in practice. The implementation of checks and balances in Jotang Village is influenced by five factors, namely human resource capacity, access to information, the independence of the BPD, community support, and the relationship between the BPD and the Village Head, with the latter being the most dominant factor.
Widiya Safira I Irawansyah Copyright (c) 2026 Widiya Safira, I Irawansyah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 276 – 289 276 – 289 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2586 STRATEGI PARTAI KEADILAN SEJAHTERA (PKS) DALAM PEMILU LEGISLATIF DI KABUPATEN SUMBAWA TAHUN 2024 http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2587
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) increased its representation in the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of Sumbawa Regency from four seats in the 2019 Legislative Election to six seats in the 2024 Legislative Election. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of e-government in the Sumbawa Besar Regional Government has resulted in an increase in the quality of public services. The digital system makes it easier for the public to obtain information and access various government services without having to follow complicated and time-consuming procedures. In addition, the use of information technology helps government agencies collaborate, which makes bureaucratic processes faster and more effective. The implemented digital system also supports public information transparency because the public can view various service information more transparently. Low levels of digital literacy in some community groups also hinder the use of electronic-based services. Furthermore, there has been no significant progress in system integration between regional government organizations. As a result, some services are still carried out separately and not fully connected into a single integrated system. This condition indicates that the availability of technology is not the only factor determining the success of e-government implementation; organizational readiness, human resource quality, and community support for digital services are other factors.
H Helmiati Aldi Apriansyah Copyright (c) 2026 H Helmiati, Aldi Apriansyah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 303 – 316 303 – 316 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2589 ANALISIS PENYELESAIAN KONFLIK ILEGAL LOGGING DI DESA KELUNGKUNG PADA TAHUN 2023-2024 http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2595
This study aims to analyze the conflict resolution mechanisms implemented by the Kelungkung Village Government and to examine their effectiveness through the perspective of New Institutional Theory. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through nterviews, observation, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings of this study showed that conflict resolution primarily relies on non-litigation mechanisms, including negotiation, facilitated dialogue, and mediation, while formal legal settlement remains under the authority of law enforcement agencies. From the perspective of New Institutional Theory, the normative and cultural-cognitive pillars play a more significant role than the regulatory pillar in reducing social tensions through the reinforcement of social norms, community participation, and environmental awareness. However, the effectiveness of conflict resolution is constrained by the limited legal authority of the village government, weak regulatory support, and persistent economic pressures that encourage illegal logging activities. The study concludes that conflict resolution in Kelungkung Village is oriented more toward conflict management than conflict resolution. Therefore, stronger institutional collaboration, consistent law enforcement, community economic empowerment, and the integration of regulatory, normative, and cultural-cognitive approaches are essential to achieving sustainable forest governance and preventing future conflicts. These findings support the view that effective forest conflict management requires the interaction of formal institutions, informal norms, and shared social understanding in addressing complex natural resource disputes.
S Sirajudin Dedi Supriadi Copyright (c) 2026 S Sirajudin, Dedi Supriadi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 317 – 328 317 – 328 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2595 PENGETAHUAN MASYARAKAT PESISIR TENTANG ANCAMAN MIKROPLASTIK DAN CARA PANDANG TERHADAP LAUT: ANALISIS KONSTRUKSI SOSIAL MASYARAKAT PULAU BUNGIN KABUPATEN SUMBAWA http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2582
This study aims to analyze coastal communities’ knowledge regarding the sea and the threats of microplastics, as well as the social and cultural factors that influence the formation of such knowledge. The study employs a qualitative approach using a case study strategy. The research informants were members of the Bungin Island community selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. The results were analyzed using Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann’s Social Construction Theory through the stages of externalization, objectivation, and internalization. The results of this study showed that coastal communities’ knowledge regarding the threats of microplastics is a result of social construction influenced by experience, socio-cultural conditions, the environment, and access to information. In the externalization stage, the sea is interpreted as a source of life and the main space for community economic activities. In the objectivation stage, the lack of waste management facilities and limited socialization regarding microplastics cause the habit of disposing of waste into the sea to develop into a social reality that is considered normal because it has been practiced for generations. In the internalization stage, the knowledge possessed by the community forms two perspectives: viewing the sea as a source of life that must be protected, and viewing the presence of waste in the sea as a normal condition resulting from long-standing habits. Therefore, continuous education and socialization are needed to build knowledge, perspectives, and more responsible behaviors in preserving coastal environmental sustainability.
S Sribatyamalia F Fahrunnisa Copyright (c) 2026 S Sribatyamalia, F Fahrunnisa https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 329 – 341 329 – 341 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2582 STRATEGI KOMUNIKASI DALAM RESOLUSI KONFLIK KELUARGA HARMONIS: STUDI FENOMENOLOGI PADA KELUARGA HARMONIS DI DESA MARONGE KECAMATAN MARONGE http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2574
This study aims to analyze family communication patterns in resolving domestic conflicts and building family harmony using a symbolic interactionism approach. The informants were selected purposively based on the consideration that they were directly involved in family social interactions in Maronge Village, thus possessing relevant information related to the issues under study. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation to gain an in-depth understanding of the social conditions of families in Maronge Village. Data analysis was conducted using George Herbert Mead’s Symbolic Interactionism theory, which emphasizes three main concepts: mind, self, and society. Positive symbolic interactions, both verbal and non-verbal, construct shared meanings of togetherness, safety, and comfort within the family. Farmer households in rural areas continue to face economic uncertainty due to fluctuating agricultural yields, climate change, and limited access to production resources. In this context, besiru, a local collective labor practice based on reciprocity, functions not only as a traditional form of mutual cooperation but also as a social arena that reflects gender relations within agrarian communities. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a sociological ethnographic perspective. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving 11 informants consisting of housewives, male farmers, and community leaders. The findings show that housewives play a significant role in sustaining besiru practices through labor contribution, food preparation, work coordination, and the maintenance of social networks within the community. However, women’s contributions remain structurally marginalized because domestic responsibilities and decision-making authority are still largely shaped by patriarchal norms. Despite these limitations, women continue to negotiate their roles and build agency through active participation in collective agricultural and community-based economic activities. Thus, besiru represents not only an economic adaptation strategy for farmer households but also a dynamic social space where gender relations are continuously negotiated in everyday rural life.
Putri Liana Imran Siswadi Copyright (c) 2026 Putri Liana, Imran Siswadi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 354 – 364 354 – 364 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2579 STRATEGI ADAPTASI SOSIAL MASYARAKAT TERHADAP KELANGKAAN GAS LPG 3 KG: ANALISIS SOSIOLOGIS DI DESA PERNEK http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2577
The scarcity of 3 kg LPG gas is a social phenomenon that has a broad impact on people’s lives, especially in rural areas. The theory used as an analytical tool is Talcott Parsons' Structural Functionalism theory through the AGIL concept (Adaptation, Goal Attainment, Integration, Latent Pattern Maintenance). The results of this study showed that the Pernek Village community has good social adaptation capabilities in facing LPG scarcity through the utilization of social capital, local wisdom, and community solidarity. The Pernek Village community applied four main patterns of social adaptation, namely: (1) utilization of alternative fuels (firewood, charcoal, electric stoves, magic com), (2) borrowing and sharing gas cylinders among neighbors, (3) collective purchasing and seeking supplies outside the village, and (4) rearrangement of consumption and production patterns. The presence of this tourism activity has encouraged shifts in livelihoods, increased local economic activity, and stimulated the growth of various tourism-supporting businesses. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were subsequently analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that social conflict originated from changes in the tourism management system, which had previously been community-based but became more formalized after the Regional Public Service Agency (BLUD) was designated as the official manager of the marine tourism area. These changes gave rise to differing interests concerning authority, management access, and the distribution of economic benefits among the village government, BLUD, conservation organizations, tourism operators, Pokdarwis, Pokmaswas, bagang owners, boat owners, MSME operators, and fishing communities. First, rigid gender role divisions position men as breadwinners and sole decision-makers, while women bear the entire domestic burden even when they also work outside the home. Second, economic control in the form of restricting women’s access to employment, education, and mobility. Third, the socialization of patriarchal values, which begins at an early age and is reinforced by local customs that demand unconditional obedience from wives and make violence a normalized consequence. Fourth, social institutions, ranging from community leaders, gender-biased religious interpretations, to customary philosophies, function to legitimize and reproduce male dominance across generations. These four dimensions collectively create structural conditions in which physical, psychological, and economic violence against women is justified by some perpetrators and tolerated by communities. This study analyzes how the Regional Leadership Council (DPC) of the Gerindra Party in Sumbawa Regency manages three institutional elements cognitive, normative, and regulative as formulated in Scott's (2008) New Institutionalism, and identifies the institutional factors contributing to the party's electoral resilience. The study employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach through in-depth interviews with two key informants, confirmed through triangulation with official party documents. Findings show that DPC Gerindra Sumbawa retained 5 DPRD seats in the 2024 election despite a decline in vote share from 12.0 percent (2019) to 9.5 percent (2024), accompanied by a rank shift from second to third place. The cognitive element is built through formal cadre education and an anti-vacuum strategy, though it has not yet reached the 165 villages at branch level. The normative element is reflected in grassroots engagement values, open recruitment, and collective decision-making. The regulative element is shown through proactive compliance with election commission regulations. Five key institutional factors contribute to electoral resilience: coordinated organizational structure, loyalty-building cadre systems, standardized and verified candidate recruitment, credibility-building regulatory compliance, and social programs as long-term political investment.
Arsa Ramdani I Irawansyah Copyright (c) 2026 Arsa Ramdani, I Irawansyah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 467 – 479 467 – 479 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2594 PERILAKU EKONOMI KELUARGA TENAGA KERJA WANITA DI SUMBAWA DALAM PERSPEKTIF SOSIOLOGIS (Studi di Desa Tarusa Kecamatan Buer Kabupaten Sumbawa) http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2573
The study aims to analyze the economic behavior strategies of Indonesian migrant worker (TKW) families in meeting consumption needs, making long-term investments, and examining shifts in the structure and functions of childcare within TKW families in Tarusa Village, Buer District, Sumbawa Regency. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research informants consisted of TKW mothers, children from TKW families, local communities, and village officials. Data analysis was carried out descriptively using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study showed that the phenomenon of TKW in Tarusa Village represents a form of social and economic adaptation by families in responding to the demands of daily life, where families continue to strive to maintain balance and the sustainability of family functions despite changes in roles and structures. The economic behavior strategies of TKW families are divided into two main orientations: consumption strategies, which include fulfilling food needs, children’s education, healthcare, clothing, and social needs; and long-term investment strategies, which include education savings, house construction, land purchases, and the establishment of small businesses. Furthermore, the departure of mothers as TKWs leads to shifts in the structure and function of childcare within the family. The mother’s role as the primary caregiver is transferred to the father, grandparents, or other family members, resulting in changes in parenting patterns, education, attention, and affection provided to children.
Lara Febriani Putri Utalas Indah Fitriana Sari Copyright (c) 2026 Lara Febriani Putri Utalas, Indah Fitriana Sari https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 480 – 492 480 – 492 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2573 STRATEGI PENGEMBANGAN SUMBER DAYA ORGANISASI DALAM MENINGKATKAN KINERJA DAN KEAKTIFAN ANGGOTA ORGANISASI (Studi Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Universitas Teknologi Sumbawa) http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2593
This study aims to analyze organizational resource development strategies in improving the performance and activeness of members of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Sumbawa University of Technology for the 2025/2026 period. The study employed a mixed-methods approach with a Sequential Exploratory design through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. Data were analyzed using George R. Terry’s strategic management theory, includes planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling and SWOT analysis. The findings of this study showed that the organizational resource development strategies implemented by BEM UTS have been fairly effective through systematic work program planning, clear task distribution, member capacity-building programs, and regular evaluations. The SWOT analysis reveals that BEM UTS possesses strengths in its organizational structure, institutional support, and human resources quality, while weaknesses remain in coordination, communication, and organizational administration. Furthermore, institutional support and technological advancements provide significant opportunities, whereas academic demands and fluctuating student participation present major challenges. This study concludes that organizational resource development strategies contribute positively to enhancing members’ performance and activeness, although improvements in coordination, evaluation, and organizational management are still necessary to establish a more effective, adaptive, and sustainable student organization.
Alda Dwi Nirmala Aldi Apriansyah Copyright (c) 2026 Alda Dwi Nirmala, Aldi Apriansyah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 493 – 507 493 – 507 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2593 KETAHANAN SOSIAL PEREMPUAN PERKOTAAN DALAM MENGHADAPI KELANGKAAN GAS LPG 3 KILOGRAM: ANALISIS PRAKTIK SOSIAL PIERRE BOURDIEU DI KECAMATAN SUMBAWA http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2583
This study aims to analyze the forms of women’s social resilience in facing the scarcity of 3 Kg LPG in Sumbawa District using Pierre Bourdieu’s social practice theory framework. The study employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to explore the lived experiences of informants in depth. Informants were selected using purposive sampling based on their direct experiences in dealing with the scarcity of 3 Kg LPG gas. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings show that the scarcity of 3 Kg LPG has a significant and widespread impact on the daily lives of women in Sumbawa District as the primary managers of household domestic needs. The shortage of 3 Kg LPG increases domestic burdens, raises household expenses due to price increases, disrupts cooking schedules, and alters consumption patterns and the use of alternative energy sources. In facing these conditions, women develop social resilience through three main dimensions. At the coping capacities stage, they seek alternative LPG distribution points, utilize social networks, borrow gas cylinders, and adjust household expenditures. At the adaptive capacities stage, women begin to change consumption patterns, apply more energy-efficient cooking techniques, strengthen information networks regarding LPG distribution, and prepare alternatives when supplies are limited. Meanwhile, transformative capacities are reflected in the formation of new, more sustainable practices, such as providing energy reserves, strengthening community solidarity, and changing household energy management systems.
Risqi Wandani F Fahrunnisa Copyright (c) 2026 Risqi Wandani, F Fahrunnisa https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 508 – 520 508 – 520 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2583 FENOMENA FATHERLESS DAN KETIMPANGAN SOSIAL: KAJIAN SOSIOLOGIS PADA KELUARGA IBU TUNGGAL KELAS MENENGAH DI DESA TEPAS http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2578
The fatherless phenomenon refers to the absence of a father figure in a family, either physically or emotionally, which affects the social and economic conditions of family members. This study aims to analyze the socio-economic conditions underlying the fatherless phenomenon among middle class families and to examine the social adaptation strategies employed by mothers and children in Tepas Village, Brang Rea District, West Sumbawa Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, indepth interviews, and documentation involving single-mother families experiencing fatherless conditions. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the absence of a father figure increases the economic and social burdens borne by single mothers, who must fulfill dual roles as both caregivers and breadwinners. This condition contributes to social and economic vulnerability, including limited access to resources and reduced family welfare. In addition, children experience social and emotional challenges due to the absence of a father figure. Despite these difficulties, mothers and children demonstrate various forms of social adaptation through strengthening family roles, utilizing social support networks, and fostering independence and responsibility. The study concludes that the fatherless phenomenon is not only a family issue but also a social issue closely related to socio-economic inequality within society.
Andi Arminovitri S Supriadi Copyright (c) 2026 Andi Arminovitri, S Supriadi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 521 – 533 521 – 533 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2578 PERAN SISTEM KELEMBAGAAN SOSIAL DALAM PEMBENTUKAN POLA DISTRIBUSI AIR IRIGASI SWADAYA: ANALISIS SOSIOLOGIS DI DESA MAMA KECAMATAN LOPOK http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2585
This study examines the role of social institutional systems in shaping communitybased irrigation water distribution patterns in Mama Village, Lopok District, Sumbawa Regency. Irrigation management in rural agricultural communities is not merely a technical issue related to water flow and infrastructure, but also a social process involving local institutions, collective norms, participation, leadership, and social interaction among farmers. The research applies a qualitative descriptive case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, nonparticipant observation, and documentation involving irrigation group leaders, farmers, and village government representatives. The study uses the Structuration Theory of Anthony Giddens to analyze the reciprocal relationship between social structure and human agency in irrigation practices. The findings indicate that irrigation water distribution in Mama Village is shaped by formal and informal institutions operating through locally agreed rules, collective deliberation, social sanctions, and shared responsibility. Social institutions function not only as organizational mechanisms but also as mediators of negotiation, cooperation, and conflict management among farmers. Farmers, as social agents, do not merely follow existing rules but actively reproduce, negotiate, and modify them according to ecological conditions, seasonal changes, and local agricultural needs. The study concludes that the sustainability and fairness of community-based irrigation depend significantly on the strength of local social institutions, participation, and adaptive social practices. The study is based on the increasing strategic role of the mass media in influencing public perception and the importance of journalistic ethics in maintaining the quality of democratic processes. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the Chairman of PWI Sumbawa Regency, journalists, the owner of Liputan Sumbawa media, and a member of the General Election Commission (KPU) of Sumbawa Regency. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, while the institutional analysis referred to Scott's New Institutional Theory, which consists of regulatory, normative, and cultural-cognitive pillars. The findings reveal that PWI has implemented institutional governance through the enforcement of the Journalistic Code of Ethics, journalist development programs, and efforts to strengthen professionalism and independence. However, the implementation has not been fully optimal due to limitations in supervision, unequal internalization of professional values, and the influence of journalists' work culture. Among the three institutional pillars, the cultural-cognitive pillar has the strongest influence on journalistic practices because it shapes journalists' perspectives and routines in producing news. Therefore, strengthening institutional governance requires not only formal regulations but also continuous efforts to develop professional values and journalistic culture in order to support objective, balanced, and responsible public opinion during local democratic processes.
B Buman Copyright (c) 2026 B Buman https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2026-08-31 2026-08-31 14 2 547 – 559 547 – 559 10.58406/jeb.v14i2.2592 ANALISIS KEPUASAN MASYARAKAT TERHADAP PELAYANAN PEMERINTAH DESA NGERU KECAMATAN MOYO HILIR KABUPATEN SUMBAWA http://www.e-journallppmunsa.ac.id/index.php/jeb/article/view/2596
The provision of public services by government officials across various service sectors, particularly those concerning civil matters and the basic needs of society, remains unsatisfactory. Results of this study showed that the integration function works best, sustained by mutual-cooperation values and Islamic teachings. Adaptation and Goal Attainment perform fairly well, with 80% of RPJMDes targets achieved, though women's and youth's aspirations remain under-represented. The Latency function faces the greatest threat from the younger generation's shift toward individualism and dependence on instant social aid.
