PERILAKU EKONOMI KELUARGA TENAGA KERJA WANITA DI SUMBAWA DALAM PERSPEKTIF SOSIOLOGIS (Studi di Desa Tarusa Kecamatan Buer Kabupaten Sumbawa)

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the economic behavior strategies of Indonesian migrant worker (TKW) families in meeting consumption needs, making long-term investments, and examining shifts in the structure and functions of childcare within TKW families in Tarusa Village, Buer District, Sumbawa Regency. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consisted of TKW mothers, children from TKW families, local communities, and village officials. Data analysis was carried out descriptively using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study showed that the phenomenon of TKW in Tarusa Village represents a form of social and economic adaptation by families in responding to the demands of daily life, where families continue to strive to maintain balance and the sustainability of family functions despite changes in roles and structures. The economic behavior strategies of TKW families are divided into two main orientations: consumption strategies, which include fulfilling food needs, children’s education, healthcare, clothing, and social needs; and long-term investment strategies, which include education savings, house construction, land purchases, and the establishment of small businesses. Furthermore, the departure of mothers as TKWs leads to shifts in the structure and function of childcare within the family. The mother’s role as the primary caregiver is transferred to the father, grandparents, or other family members, resulting in changes in parenting patterns, education, attention, and affection provided to children.
