KETIMPANGAN SOSIAL DAN AKSES PENDIDIKAN TINGGI ANAK NELAYAN: ANALISIS SOSIOLOGI PENDIDIKAN DI DESA LABUHAN BAJO KECAMATAN UTAN KABUPATEN SUMBAWA

Abstract

Education is one of the important means of improving the quality of human resources. However, not all social groups have equal opportunities to access higher education, including finshermen’s children in Labuhan Bajo Village. This study aims to analyze the causes of the low participation of fishermen’s children in pursuing higher education and to examine the froms of education inequality they experience. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive methods. The informants consisted of fishermen’s childer, fishermen parents, and village government representative. Data ware collected through observation, interviews and documentation, while the analysis was conducted using Pierre Bourdieu’s Social Reproductation Theory. The results show that educational inequality among fishermens children is influenced by limated economic capital, unstable family income, low cultural capital, social environmental influences,and limited access to information about higher education. These factors contribute to the low participation of fishermen’s children in continuing their studies at the university level. This study concludes that the low access to higher education among fishermen’s children is influenced not only by economic factors but also by interconnected social and cultural factors. Therefore, support from the government and educational institutions is needed through equitable access to education, increased dissemination of information about higher education, and the expansion of scholarship programs for fishermen’s children.
